First in Japan Submitted a notification of Food with Functional Claims for liver function with a new ingredient “Garcinol from Indian mangosteen”.

Toyo Shinyaku Co.,Ltd. (Head Office: Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture; Headquarters: Tosu City, Saga Prefecture; President: Toshimitsu Hattori) has submitted a notification for a food with functional claims “Indian mangosteen-derived garcinol” as a functionally active ingredient with a label stating that it “reduces slightly elevated blood ALT and AST levels in the normal range. The notification was published on January 4, 2024.

*Blood ALT and AST levels are one of the indicators of liver health.

Toyo Shinyaku submitted a notification to the Consumer Affairs Agency for “Indian Mangosteen Tablet L” containing “Indian mangosteen-derived garcinol,” a characteristic ingredient of the Indian mangosteen, as a functionally indicated food, and it was made public as of January 4, 2024. (Notification No.: I909) Garcinol from the Indian mangosteen is a new functional ingredient that has never been reported before.

We prepared a systematic review (SR) based on human study data conducted by our company and submitted a notification with the indication of “reduces slightly elevated blood ALT and AST levels in the healthy range.
